External Examiners provide an independent, external view on our assessment processes. External Examiners are typically academic staff from another institution and they scrutinize assessment briefs, marking and feedback, as well as being members of the Examination Board. They provide feedback throughout the year but also, formally via an annual report which is received at the School’s Academic Council and which we respond to. External Examiners typically have a tenure of four years. External Examining is a key mechanism in assuring and enhancing our standards. Each External Examiner will typically scrutinize a selection of modules from a programme which they have expertise and experience in.
